Chowdown Around Seattle

Twice a year, Seattle is host to Dine Around Seattle , the favorite amongst penny pinching foodies, where you too can enjoy fine foods at 30 popular restaurants for $15 (lunch) and $30 (dinner).

Beginning today (and lasting through March 31), participating restaurants offer delicious 3 course meals ranging in American to Vietnamese cuisine.

You will likely fine me at Monsoon Seattle and Etta's Seafood .

It's That Time of Year Again

Girl Scout Cookies are back in stock. For a highway robbery price of $4, you get maybe 20 cookies of your favorite (thin mint, thin mint, thin mint) flavor.

Don't miss the chance to support the future of America next time you stock up on beer, chips, and probably Hungry Man dinners.

I love cookies and cookies love me.

True story. They do love me.

A few years back my sister gave me the best birthday present ever: a year-long membership to Cougar Mountain Baking Company's "Cookie of the Month" club . Every month, the CMBC sent me 2 boxes of their delicious cookies to my office ranging from my personal favorites, Chewy Molasses-Ginger (June standard) or Lemon Snickerdoodle (July standard) PLUS a mystery flavor-usually their special flavor of the month. To this day, my sis still generously gives me boxes of cookies, albeit typically opened and missing a few cookies.

For a limited time, you can get one of my second favorite cookies and a staple of childhood cookie mania, Oreos FOR FREE! You can also win a chance care with Oreo's Double Stuf Racing League (DSRL) to win a Wonka-like golden ticket and have a true Oreo fashioned lick race with Oreo cookie ambassadors, the Manning Brothers. Winners will receive a 3-day, 2-night trip to Florida and more.

Beer, Bikes, and Beaches!

I like beer. No need to beat around the bush. I may turn a sheen of crimson because I fail to keep a supply of Pepcid AC with me at all times, but I like Beer. It seems like a seasonal drink to me however, primarily for summer consumption primarily cause I'm too damn lazy to leave my house in the winter. But this year, it may change as for this week there are two awesome events taking place:

1. Down at Gordon Biersch Seattle at Pacific Place on Jan 13 and 14 (5-7pm), the Kauai Visitors Bureau is giving away a trip to Kauai care of Hawaiian Airlines and Castle Resorts Hotels. Some delicious foods on the menu: Guava Mango Ribs, Macadamia Nut Mahi Bites, Kahlua Pork Sliders, and Poke. Very ono (yummy)! I think I'd like to go on Thursday.

2. Also taking place is the Stinky Spoke Bike Race starting from the Redhook Brewery. 16 mile short mountain bike race where you collect cards from the poker card stations to build your best hand. Goodies include a beanie, pint glass, and a beer courtesy of Redhook. (of course). Register online for $30 or at the door for $40.

Roach Coach Goodness

In the 6 months since I moved back to Seattle, I have yet to experience the joys of eating from a roach coach. This is not to say that they're not around, but just not on every corner from where I was living in Los Angeles. Across the street from my apartment in Koreatown was the $1 taco truck blasting mariachi music (ironic, I know), there was the torta stand a few blocks down with THE best tortas I've ever had. Not to mention the Koji Korean BBQ truck that was known to have a 45 minute wait just to try their bulgogi tacos and kim chi quesadillas. The only way to find those guys was via their website, or better yet via their Twitter page.

I'm stoked for this weekend as I was alerted by Thrillist about Seattle's Mobile Chowdown Mobile Chowdown. This weekend in the Interbay area, I'll be there to try some of best cart food in Seattle, including: Hawaiian/Korean tacos and sliders from Marination Mobile, tortas from El Camion, and other Seattle favorites Top Pot Doughnuts and Jones Soda.

Info: Sat Jan 9, 11am-3pm; 1616 W Bertona.

Don't worry. They're supplying the Port-a-potties.

Welcome!

Welcome to Dim Summit-the brainchild of 31 years of gluttonous food consumption. It has been a dream to bring one of my favorite foods to the pinnacle of the world-literally, by opening a dim sum restaurant on the top of a mountain! Ask any of my patient friends about this and eyes will roll and heads will turn, but THIS IS A BRILLIANT CONCEPT!!! Fools I say.

Ask any of my friends and they will tell you that I have the "worst" dietary habits of them all. Example: McDonalds McRib commercial appears on TV. You know who I think would like eat the McRib ? A simultaneous "Mr. Dim Summit" rings from their voices. It is true. Ever since my first experience tasting it in Salt Lake City, I can't help but think that naysayers just can't appreciate the artfully placed pickle and onions placed by the craftsmen at the golden arches.

Throughout the future posts, I will document my culinary adventures in the greater Seattle area as well as upcoming events and activities. Stay tuned!
